How Springer reduces tugs.
A dog, the size of a retriever for instance, would often during a charge to the side exert a force on the biker of some 70 lbs or more. Without SPRINGER (leash in hand) the "torque" (what makes your bike fall over) would be:

3 ft x 70 lbs = 210 ft lbs

During the first second of a dog's charge to the side, the coil spring absorbs the impact, and only transfers approximately 20 lbs of the force, or less, to the bike, regardless of the dogs' strength. The torque is reduced to less than 1/10 of what it would have been without SPRINGER:

The lowering of the point of impact, but in particular the flexing of the coil spring, gives you, the biker, time to react instinctively to re-adjust your balance, just as you do today (without even thinking about it) if caught by a gust of wind.
